In February 2007, in commemoration of the tenth anniversary of the death of Carl Sagan, published a video on You Tube, an Irish artist, the ice core scientist called "Pale Blue Dot.
Very quickly the attention of science and astronomy, prominent bloggers began to win. It was inspired by an essay written by the late Carl Sagan, which in a deep single photo of the planet earth from the Voyager spacecraft as they passed the outer edge of our planet.
When Voyagerreached the edge of our solar system in 1991, the late astronomer Carl Sagan suggested that she had to instruct the craft, a parting shot Earth. So they conquered.
The photo sent by Voyager was humiliating, indeed, a low resolution image shows a small blue spot caught by chance in a sunbeam. He moved with his wife, Dr. Sagan, Ann Druyan a book entitled Leave Pale Blue Dot: A look at the future of man in space.
Part of the book contains a profound philosophicalEssay by Dr. Sagan read at a host address, shortly before he died in 1996.
This is what he wrote:
"Look again at that point. It's here. That's home. That's us. On it, all who love you, you all know, everyone you ever heard of any man who ever lived their life. The sum of our joy and suffering , thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and chopper, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyerCivilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and scientist, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader" All the saints and sinners history of our species lived there - on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a big cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph, they could master the instantaneous fraction of a point. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguish people from another corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how much they kill each other, as their fervent hatred.
Our Poznan, our notion of self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are made from this point of pale light in question. Our> Planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no indication that aid will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Whether he likes it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we get our position.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling andCharacter-building experience. There is perhaps no better proof of the folly of human things than this distant image of our little world. For me, it underscores our responsibility, friendly with each other and preserve and maintain the Pale Blue Dot, the only home we've ever known.
- Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot, 1994 "
Those words made it on the front page of You Tube, when the editors decided that ice core scientists in the June 2007 video feature. It is created immediatelya storm of comments between religions and atheists, but often only simple amazement.
Hundreds of different versions of Pale Blue Dot has released what can only show you down is not always a good idea! The concierge has actually been replaced by the original ice core scientists in prospect, perhaps appropriate since it is Dr. Sagan's voice features with a sample from the audiobook version of "Pale Blue Dot. In May 2008 as part of Pangea Day, a different version ofPublished Pale Blue Dot, was underlined once more the deep perspective of our place in the universe.
This modest picture of our little planet has a unique challenge for our planet in a way that mankind has not done a view initiated because we believed it was flat.
Read also Dr. Sagan's book Contact - explores similar themes and has been in a feature film starring Jodie Foster.
Watch the original version of "Pale Blue Dot by Ice Core Scientist thatstarted off and everything and they do not give to your friends as an inspiring gift.
